Healthy Sleeping... Do You Get Enough?

We all go to bed at night with intentions of sleeping well. Sleeping through the night, and waking up the next day with that feeling of refreshed. It just doesn't happen every night.

We are more sleep deprived in the 21st Century than in the 1980's. Why are we more sleep deprived?

STRESS!

Back in the 1980's, there was no pressure to have a 2 person income, and drop the kids off to others to take care of for 12 hours or more. Spending more time at home with kids and family was easier.

Today, it is imperative to have a 2 person income. Food prices are higher, daycare is more expensive, and the only relief in site is gas prices dropping. We treasure the smallest time we are able to receive, and the less the stress, the more we can sleep with ease.

The downside of the stress and daily living. The lack of sleep. It is still upon us. How do we counter this lack of sleep and release this stress. Set a schedule, and stick to it. Routine is everything with our daily lives. Harder for a routine when you work nights. Even more of a routine is needed to receive the sleep we need. How do we place a routine? It takes work, with determination to keep it in place.

Adults require 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Teens require 11 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Do you actually receive 8 hours? Does your teen receive 11 hours? We have two teenagers, ages 18, and 16. We know that the stress of school, friends, homework, work, and whether there is a girlfriend or boyfriend involved. Our teens? Only receive 5 hours of sleep. We alone, as adults, average 4 to 6 hours of sleep. How can we change that? Exercise, and calling it a day 10 hours before we have to start our next day.
